In my opinion the Seagull S6 was the ultimate trubadour workhorse until Wechter came along and it can still outperform most competitors: Sturdy, great-sounding, playable, affordable and with what was the ultimate pickup-system of that time. With a medium-sized body it's also a good compromise between a folk guitar and a dreadnought, making it equally suitable for fingerpicking and strumming.

Pickup alternatives

My Seagull came with an excellent factory-fitted transudcer system, so I never thought there was any reason to try anything else. I was wrong!

L. R. Baggs Acoustic Timbre

One of the reasons Seagull outperformed all its competitors was that it came with an L. R. Baggs pickup system at a time when Fishman was still the norm. Seagull even managed to get Baggs to custom-build a preamp for them (although I suspect that was more a cosmetic change). This is as far as you can get with a bridge transducer. Still some plastic in the sound, but if you're used to Fishman and lesser systems, this'll come as a huge revelation to you.

Sound Checker ACCU_STIC

Well, I was trying to combine the ACCU_STIC with the Baggs, so I might as well try it alone. The less said, the better.

L. R. Baggs Acoustic Timbre and Sound Checker ACCU_STIC

The ACCU_STIC didn't work well on its own, but it turned out to be the perfect companion for the Baggs. L. R. Baggs took the bridge pickup as far as it could go on its own, leaning on an ACCU_STIC takes it even further.
