HFramus archtop guitar
(Sorry 'bout the image quality. Was just trying to spend the last pic on a disposable camera.)

Well, I think it's a Framus at least - possibly a Höfner. All labels are long gone and I've never seen one exactly like it, so I can't be really sure.

A guitar workshop got it in for repair but the owner never turned up to claim it, so in the end they just sold it for the repair costs. I couldn't beliee my luck!!! No matter what brand it is, this is a great good old-fashioned archtop guitar and I got it for almost nothing!

Pickup alternatives

Maybe I should try a Fishman bridge with built in pickup? I'd rather not buy one of those without testing it first since to be honest I'm less than impressed about the Fishman pickups I know (the standard guitar transducer and the weird banjo pickup), but this is one I'm gonna get absolutely right or die trying!

Sound Checker Original

I really didn't expect much, but actually this combination turned out quite well. I couldn't get enough treble no matter how I tried though.

Double Sound Checker Original

I think the right word here is promising. Still lots and lots of tests to do.

K & K Sound Twin Spot Classic

I really had expected K&K to perform better than Sound Checker on this guitar, but it didn't. Then again it wasn't that bad and K&K does have a special archtop guitar model. Maybe that'll be the one?

Sound Checker ACCU_STIC

I managed to get better results from the ACCU_STIC here than on any other instrument. Seems the microphone's frequency range fits an archtop guitar very well. The Framus has wider soundholes than the Harmony too, so it should actually be possible to use an ACCU_STIC inside it.

Double Sound Checker Original and Sound Checker ACCU_STIC

The Sound Checker family in perfect harmony. The ACCU_STIC povides some extra top and openness to its piezo electric brother's solid body of sound. This looks extremely promising, but I haven't tried it live yet. There are a number of serious potential pitfalls!

K & K Sound Twin Spot Classic and Sound Checker ACCU_STIC

This didn't work at all. No matter what I tried, the results was worse than each pickup on its own. Must be that dreaded comb filter effect they've been talking about.
